That’s the question every prepper should ask himself. Why? Because we are preparing for that moment every day. We are spending money and time. Are the sacrifices worth it if we are not ready for D-Day? That’s why we must know if we are on the good or the wrong path.
Helping you to know if you are on the good track is the purpose of this article. Here is some food for thought.
- Food and Water
If the grocery store is closed tomorrow, how much time can you eat and drink before you run out of supplies?
Let’s assume you ate all your food and drank your water. Are you able to produce enough food to feed your family? What percentage of your consumption can you produce? 1, 10%, 50%, 90%?
Do you have access to water? Can you filter it? Do you have enough containers to store it?
Raising chickens, hunting or trapping can put meat and eggs on your table.
- Defense and Medical Training
When a disaster occurs, you can’t call 911 because someone attacks your home or if you’re wounded.
What are your defense strategies? Do you have sufficient weapons and ammos to protect your family? Do you practice regularly? Do you have a survival plan?
Did you take a First Aid Class or get Medical Training to know what to do if someone is hurt? If you’re the person who is sick or wounded, is a member of your group able to take care of you?
When you run out of drugs, are you able to produce your own?
Tips: Make a defense strategy plan. Practice firing with your weapons.
Try to live a week-end without electricity and you’ll understand how dependent we are. So your next step is to imagine how your life will be without it. As I wrote, don’t use energy for a week-end. It’s the best way to know if you’re prepared to face a blackout or power shortage.
Can you light or heat your house? Can you cook? Do you have alternative energy to electricity like gas or wood?
Tips: Make a list of the vital equipment you think you absolutely need to survive or live better (we can live without electricity).
For each item, find out if you are able to use it if you’re off grid. Is there another way to make it work? (batteries, power generator, etc…)
These few steps will show you what you are able to use if SHTF happens now.
